Costoclavicular Manuever
- Addresses provocation from narrowing of costoclavicular space
- Patient is seated with arms at side
- Therapist assist the patient in performing scapular retraction, depression, elevation, and protraction – holding each position between 30 seconds to 1 minute
- Patient rests his or her forearms on thighs while the examiner monitors for changes in pulse and symptom onset
- Examiner should note which positions aggravate or ease the symptoms
- Positive test: change in radial pulse and/or pain and paresthesia or symptom provocation
***There is a large percent of false positives when a change in the radial pulse is considered a positive test. Therefore, clinicians should use the test position for symptom provocation and not as a test for radial pulse change (Plewa et. al. 1998 & Gillard et. al. 2001)
